Eco-erotic Encounters with and in Videogames

This forthcoming article is the result of an awesome collab with Dr. Laura op de Beke. Building on a talk I gave at the Ecogames conference in Utrecht, we discuss how erotic forms of play in and around video games often incorporate environmental elements. Where dendrophilia, sexecology, and ecosexuality are often seen as transgressive forms of sexuality outside of video games, these forms of sexuality are much more common within video games. We therefore ask how these forms of sexual play are modifying the ways that interact with and perceive the environment. Our article engages with this question through a theory and methodology for “eco-lewdology” drawn from both critical examinations of the topic as well as an archive of player-produced documentation of their lewdic practices.
